Weather Innovation, Smart Energy, and Resilience (WISER) is an NSF Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC).

🌪️⚡Extreme weather events continue to challenge power grid resilience, causing widespread outages that disrupt industries and communities. To enhance outage forecasting and improve response strategies, this WISER-funded project is developing Spatially-Aware Hybrid Graph Neural Networks (SA-HGNNs)—an advanced AI-driven model that integrates both spatial and dynamic factors for more accurate predictions.

By improving the Outage Prediction Modeling (OPM) system, this research will help utilities better anticipate outages, optimize resource allocation, and enhance service reliability during hurricanes, storms, and ice events. With cutting-edge machine learning techniques, SA-HGNNs will transform how utilities prepare for and mitigate power disruptions. Stay connected as we push the boundaries of AI-driven resilience planning!
