Weather Innovation, Smart Energy, and Resilience (WISER) is an NSF Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC).
❄️⚡️ At WISER, we’re tackling the challenges of winter storm disruptions head-on! This groundbreaking project, led by UAlbany and UConn, is set to revolutionize how utilities anticipate and respond to snowstorm-related power outages. With climate change altering storm patterns, utilities need a clearer picture of how snowstorms are evolving and their impact on electricity reliability. Using advanced climate data analysis and machine learning models, this research will quantify historical and future snowstorm changes in the Northeast U.S.
By integrating historical weather patterns and future climate projections, the project will enhance outage prediction models, helping utilities build stronger resilience strategies. Stay tuned as we uncover critical insights that will shape the future of winter storm preparedness! 🌨️🔋
